Hash Browns / Potato Pancakes
This Potato Pancakes recipe is something that I remember since I was a child. I most like to be served hot with sugar, but my husband and daughter like it with sour cream or Hungarian goulash.
I prefer to add the onion, but some people add grated cheese. These potato pancakes are served with sour cream and salmon. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- potatoes - 1kg
- onion - 1
- plain white flour - 3 tablespoons
- egg - 1
- sea salt - a pinch
- vegetable oil - for frying
Instructions
- Peel the potatoes and onion and then grate them on a greater. Use outward protruding holes with spiky edges on all sides.
- Combine grated potatoes and onion, flour, egg and salt thoroughly in a bowl. Stir until well combined.
- Fill a frying pan with less than 1 cm of oil and heat it over medium heat.
- Take 1 large spoon from the mixture and place it in the pan. Using a spatula gently press the potato pancake so it will become flat. Cook 2 - 3 minutes on each side or until golden browned. I fry 3 potato pancakes at the same time in the pan, but their size depends on how you like.
- Drain on paper towels and serve them as they are while warm.
