When you buy products low-processed without additions, you avoid eating such substances as glucose-fructose syrup, artificial flavours, carrageenan, stabilizers, thickeners, palm oil, preservatives.
E223 – sodium metabisulfite or sodium pyrosulfite is is used as a preservative agent and antioxidant in food.
It may cause allergic reactions in those who are sensitive to sulfites, including respiratory reactions in asthmatics, anaphylaxis and other allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Due to its oxidising effect, it may reduce the vitamin content in products. It is reduced in the liver to harmless sulphate and excreted in the urine. The acceptable daily intake is up to 0.7 milligrams per kilogram of body weight.
Typically found in beers, soft drinks, dried fruit, frozen vegetables, pickles, frozen shellfish, juices, cordials, wine, vinegar, and potato products. It is also used in bleaching straw (coconut cream), traditional B&W photography and as an excipient in some tablets, such as paracetamol.
