Broad Beans (fava beans)
With the broad beans cooking is the same as with the asparagus cooking. Everyone has their own way - someone prefer cooking in water, others on steam. There are also people that do not cook it, and eat raw. Therefore, I decided to share with you my recipe - how to cook the broad beans.
After cooking you can add one tablespoon of butter or garlic.
Keep in mind that this is a very healthy plant. They contain high levels of dietary fiber, protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. It is also a source of sodium, as well as vitamins A, B1, B2 and C.
- Wash the broad beans. Fill the pot with boiling water, just enough to cover the broad beans and add one tablespoon of salt, bay leaves and a pinch of sugar. Cover the pot with a lid and bring water to boil, then cook for around 3-5 minutes on medium-high heat. The broad beans cooked briefly, just 3-5 minutes of boiling, going green and crisp. If it longer remains in boiling water, it will be more soft and sticky.
The young beans cook in approx. 5 minutes, the older a bit longer, even 15 minutes.
- Then drain and add butter.
- Slit each pod along its seam and run your thumb along the furry inside to push the beans out.
